Sony AN-LP1 Antenna Resurfaces

an-lp1Buy from Japan, which for the past week has no longer been offering the sought-after Sony AN-LP1 antenna (Passport 2008, pp. 204-205), now lists a couple of units as being available at $102-105, including shipment. Who knows if they have a steady source for new units or are simply finding old-new stock, but bottom line is that new units continue to be available, and that’s great news. —Via Don Rucker

BuyFromJapan is quite a store! There have been a few times previously that he did not list any AN-LP1s for a couple of days but then he always seems to get more. I bought several from him. All looked brand-new and factory fresh. They were definitely not shop-worn nor were they returns.

Still if someone wants one, the time to buy it is right now. Who knows for how long this antenna will stay available?

In any event, as you say, this is very good news. And I hope that readers here will consider buying Allied Electronics extension cable mentioned in an earlier news item. They have plenty of them and these cables work perfectly. This is one of those things—why didn’t I (or anyone else) ever think of this before? Regarding the Sony ICF-SW77, with this cable the control box can be kept far from the receiver with no difficulty. Sony itself should have thought of this “fix.” In any event all users will benefit from the use of this cable with regard to using the antenna more conveniently.

Ed.: We’ve used the AN-LP1 “as is” with the ICF-SW77, including for moderate DXing, and it always worked fine. Even the Sony of America product manager at the time thought the factory’s cautionary statement was much ado over virtually nothing.

eBay shows 5 AN-LP1 units sold so far today by BuyFromJapan. (As of 8:00 pm ET USA) Including shipping $102 for one, $195 for two.

I ordered the AN-LP1 from “BuyFromJapan”. The item came to my door in about 10 days, was well packed and is worth every penny. DON’T let this one get away!

    Ed.: Great choice, Steve. Enjoy!

Concur with the above post. I also recently ordered another AN-PL1 from “BuyFromJapan” to keep my old one company. The brand new unit arrived within a week, well packed and I was able to track the package from the point of departure. Would buy from this eBay store again, excellent service.

The mono extension cable for the Sony AN-LP1 antenna will not work with the AN-LP2 active antenna supplied with the Sony ICF-SW07 receiver. You need a stereo version of the cable which can be purchased from http://www.yourcablestore.com part number HP 3M-F 25 (25 ft version); various lengths are available. I purchased several cables of different lengths from this store and they work fine with the AN-LP2 unit connected to the ICF-SW07 receiver.

Just bought a new AN-LP1 last week from BuyFromJapan, so they are still available. Is it possible to get more specific information on extension cable mentioned in several earlier posts?
    Thanks!

I need more wire, or an extension of wire from my AN-LP1 to my radio; also, I was wondering if this will work with the Etón E1XM radio?

Ed.: It’s certainly worth a try and stands a good chance of working.
